The Atlanta zoning code allows ADU's on lots zoned R-5, R-4, and R-4A. Even if your lot meets the zoning criteria above, there are still additional restrictions to consider.
The combined square footage of your main house and the ADU cannot exceed 55% of your total lot area.
This refers to the amount of building space allowed on your lot. In Atlanta, the FAR is typically 50% (although it can be 65% for lots under 7,500 sq ft).
